History of Jose De Villa National High School
A lapse of more or less ten (10) years had passed since the first attempt was made by the community to put a secondary school at Manguiring, which is situated at the eastern part of Calabanga town proper and is accepted to be strategically the local point of access to transportation and communication by the adjoining barangays.
The aforementioned attempt was spearheaded by Kgd. Florentino Encillo, committee on education, chairman, a public school supervisor. It was financially supported by the Municipal Council, however; they were met by various hindrances particularly in seeking the approval to open the said school of the Department of Education and so much effort had frozen into vain.
Just the same, the proponents ought to be congratulated for having set forth the initial step. A secondary school is really destined to rise at Manguiring. In 1993, the sunken proposition to establish a high school in this placed surface again.
This time, the man was the incumbent Barangay Chairman Dr. Ruben G. Peña, Ld. D. and his Barangay Development Council Resolution Nos. 1-A and 1-B series of 1993, simultaneously enacted by his council requesting the Sangguniang Bayan of Calabanga to endorse officially the said resolution to the DECS thru channels. By the joint efforts of the Sangguniang Bayan and the Municipal Mayor Hon. Ruben B. Medroso, Hon. Pedro Casida, Chairman Committee on Education; Mr. Julio Dulce, Jr., Municipal Budget Officer; Mrs. Reynalda Mariscal, Municipal Treasurer; Mr. William A. Villare, Principal II Calabanga National High School, voluminous requirement papers were duly accomplished, approved by Dr. Vita Q. Avenido, Asst. Schools Division Superintendent, In-Charge of Secondary Schools and officially endorsed to the Regional Director by Atty. Simeon F. Adan, Schools Division Superintendent. In turn, Regional Director Director Dominador Z. Cabasal endorsed the said pertinent papers to the Secretary of the Department of Education, Culture and Sports.
The request to establish JOSE DE VILLA MEMORIAL HIGH SCHOOL was finally approved and signed by Hon. Secretary Ricardo T. Garcia on December 28, 1994. Even without yet the formal approval of the said request, the JDVMHS was authorized to formally open its first year of classes on June 15, 1994, with an enrolment of one hundred and one (101). The school was pioneered by three (3) teachers namely: Mrs. Maria P. Gueriba, Teacher-In-Charge; Ms. Melany C. Panganiban and Mrs. Nelida S. Cedron.
The school was named after the late Mr. Jose De Villa, Sr., father of Mrs. Nicasia De Villa Reyta, the donor of a hectare of land which was utilized as a school site. For two (2) months, the first year of classes were housed in Manguiring Elementary School under its Principal Mr. Eleuterio Dacara, Jr., while the school site was under construction. The Barangay Council Members who took the pains of putting up the cottage building were namely: Ignacio Ilagan, Jr.; Kgd. Danilo Bico, Jr.; Kgd. Moises Ipo; Kgd. Maximo Caraan; Kgd. Manuel An; Kgd. Alfredo Puri, Sr.; and Kgd. Jose Cruzat. The first organized PTA officers were the following: Mr. Jose Delfin, Mrs. Josefina Eleria, Mrs. Remedios Sabido, Mrs. Belen Bronzal, Mrs. Luzviminda Rosero, Mrs. Faustina Gasilla, Mr. Vicente Nasayao, Jr., Mr. Floro Facistol and Mr. Simeon Trlles, Sr.
In the school year 1995-1996, its second year of operation, it had an enrollment of 375 and three were added namely: Mr. Rodolfo Alejandro, Jr., Mrs. Helen A. Ramos and Ms. Ma. Fides C. Arenas.
In the school year 1996-1997, three (3) teachers again were added namely: Mrs. Ma. Socorro S. Agsangre, Mr. Angel Belleza and Mrs. Francia Broqueza. In the opening of School Year 1997-1998, another teacher was added, Mrs. Luningning M. Beliber. On March 30, 1998, fourth year students were confirmed first JDVMHS graduates. In the school year 1999-2000, Mrs. Armely Jane E. Bayonito was added to the school.
On August 22, 2000, the school was converted to a national high school known as JOSE DE VILLA NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL thru the approval of R. A. 8849. Mr. Frederick A. Buenafe, Ms. Merlie R. Gutierez, Mr. Alexander F. Conde, Jr. and Mrs. Marites B. Bronzal were added in the school year 2002-2003. Ms. Moriel M. Barrogo was added to the faculty in the school year 2007-2008.
Mrs. Maria P. Gueriba was promoted to Principal I. She turned the agricultural land into a beautiful landscape that really shows her deep commitment to the school; from nipa classroom made of coco lumber into beautiful concrete school buildings.
In December 2008, Mrs. Maria P. Gueriba retired from the service and temporarily replaced by Mr. Rodolfo O. Alejandro, Jr., from January 2009 to June 3, 2009 as the Officer-In-Charge.
Mr. Lope C. Espiritu, Jr. reported for his first day of service to JDVNHS on June 04, 2009 as the newly assigned school head. In the school year 2010-2011, Ms. Mary Franz E. Empleo, Ms. Gemma P. Guiriba and Ms. Krishna F. Garcia were added. In the school year 2012-2013, Ms. Mabel P. Arceo was added. In June 2013, Mrs. Charol R. Agna, Ms. Arleen Delos Reyes, Ms. Michelle G. Banquiles and Ms. Regina Floresa V. Bas were added.
In School Year 2014-2015, five (5) new teachers were added namely: Mr. Rolly B. Ramirez, Mr. Khristian Damielle A. Jamer, Mrs. Maya C. Isidoro, Mrs. Juliet B. De Osio and Mrs. Cristina E. Lavapire.
In School Year 2015-2016, eight (8) new teachers were added namely: Mr. Antonio Abalayan III, Ms. Anabelle Andal, Ms. Joy Arceo, Ms. Elvie Bornel, Mr. Ronel Cedron, Mr. Robert John Dolorical, Mrs. Karla Angelie Naval and Mr. Ruel Tolentino.
Presently, the school is now focusing on the achievement level of the student through the inclusion of Information Technology as one of the elective subjects, implementation of different programs that will help the students be more dedicated and committed to their studies and establishment of harmonious partnership with the parents and stakeholders in providing the school necessary tools to achieve its goal towards quality and relevant basic secondary education.
